True to Murphy my Techno arrived the day before my last final and after the final there has either been rain or no wind until yesterday. I had a few short flights because the wind seemed to be dying and coming in gusts. It flew well in the light wind and when there were strong gusts it wasn't pulling too hard. There were a few response issues, but I think that is mainly due to the lines are not the same length. I have never had to retie lines that were sleeved (lucky I guess). Are there any tricks to it? I also noticed a crack on the nock (or knock or whatever the piece on the end of the leading edge is called where the tensioners attach). It is minor and it seems that the piece is already glued on the kite. Should I not worry about it, get a new one, pull the broken one off to super glue it and reattach it? That's it for now, I'm sure more will come.

Hi Kevin,

Spectra line tends to have some initial stretch (or 'creep') that occurs the first time it is flown. This creep is the braid in the line being stretched. After that is done the lines should be perfect for their lifespan. With this in mind, it is important for all pilots to be able to adjust their line lengths.

To adjust sleeved line, untie the sleeving loop knots on one end of the longer line and slide the sleeving down the line until it is adjacent to the other sleeve. Retie the loop so it is of equal length with the other line. Be careful not to pull the sleeving off the Spectra. Cut off any excess line.

Using a ground stake, such as a screwdriver, is an easy way to stretch your lines out and pull them under tension.

Send me an email (chris@newtechkites.com) with your mailing address and I'll mail you a replacement nock.

Cheers!

I had the same problem with my lines being uneven when I first started to fly too. Now I always plan on adjusting the length on a new set of strings after a few flights. I found this idea for a line length equalizer a very helpful workaround while flying until I get around to doing the length adjustment thing. Here is the link.
