My brother and his daughter were in town from AZ for my niece's graduation from Rhodes college. And; yesterday, we went to Shelby Farms, since it looked like the winds would be pretty good. (see photos below)
I figured, I would take the Pyro XS! It hadn't been out of the bag since the day, I bought it. It had about 3-8 seconds of air time total. We also took the $2.00 plastic 'Shuttle' kite, that we bought from my nephew a few weeks back.
Also; took a spinning box kite, I picked up at Target ($7.00) a few weeks back in anticipation of their arrival. And; that 84" Delta, I bought before, I knew I was going Stunt Kite flying.
Now; to the meat of the story. The Pyro XS was sooooo cool! No question about the winds either. I don't know what the wind speed was yesterday. But; it was plenty! All the kites just took off!
Of course; being the first time, I knew I would have ample wind for the Pyro XS, I was a bit nervous!! It shot up like a missle!! And; it was amazing!! I began realizing immediately what Dodd was saying about the wind window. Wow! I crashed a hard a couple of times. But; overall, I was getting the hang of it pretty good. No fancy spins yet. But; I did some sweet direction changes, and low ground passes. And; as you will see in the one photo, I layed down on my back. My neck muscles were getting a workout!! At times, the Pyro was actually behind my head. It was such a blast!
My brother flew it too, and did a great job. He had never flown one either.
NOW; I don't want another single line for my next kite! I want another stunt kite! Am I going too fast??! Should I just relax, or go ahead buy another now?!! HA! And; what does everyone suggest for my next Stunt kite?

Shelby Farms, Memphis?
Your first flight sounds a lot like my experience. Launched it (a Detonator), it flew straight up to the top of the window, and stalled. While looking at it in awe, just hovering there, thinking about how it was just on the ground a second ago, I'm wondering should I pull a side and see what happens? I pulled, it slowly turned, and hit the power zone just as it was nose down. It was moving FAST!! What do I do? I put my hands back in the neutral position, thinking it would self recover, and THWACK!! My first lawn dart After checking the kite, setting back up, running the instructions through my head again, the next few launches were getting easier. I can now control the kite very well. No tricks mastered, but I can put the kite anywhere in the window I want. So, keep practicing (playing), it only gets better! |

Indeed! We live in Oakland, about 27 miles from Shelby Farms. It's a great place to fly kites!
I'm already considering my next purchase! _________________ - Greg |

Hey Ed!! How are you? So; some construction differences in the Pyro XS, and the Techno. Any differences as far as the way the 2 kites fly? Thanks!! _________________ - Greg |

theres a huge difference in contruction from the Pxs and Techno of course without a doubt lol. the Pxs is only 5mm pultruded carbon where as the techno is P200 wrapped carbon, its a much better frame more stiffer too and used on higher end kites. i cant tell you what the difference in flight is because i dont have a techno(not yet lol) thats something Dodd could answer. _________________ http://community.webshots.com/user/ed_diaz1497 |
