Has anyone checked a Newtech Standard Kite Bag (72"X7") as luggage on a flight? I'm wondering if there's an oversize fee for this size bag.

Regards,

Yes, and depending on the person at the counter that is checking your bags, most of the time if you tell them it's sport kites, they let it thru without the over size charge.

I travel with an even bigger bag (72" x 20") and I've only been charged one time (knock on wood), and I even travel international a few times each year. If in doubt, simply break down the leading edges in your kites and then fold the bag in half.

Another great option that many kiters do, is they buy a hard plastic golf club case, and it's size is under the airlines size limits, but it's wide enough to hold 20-30 kites, lines, etc...
You can buy them cheaper at stores such Academy sports, etc... for between $50 and $150, depending on the model. they have wheels so that it's easy to roll them around. They're pretty sturdy and can take a beating.

Thanks for the fast reply. I'm heading off to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico (south of Cancun) this morning and I didn't want to have to get turned away at the gate or pay an extra fee to take a couple of kites.
