Can anyone let me know the best way to repair a sail on a Techno?
This has been one of the most frustrating kites I've purchased. When I purchased the kite, it had the wrong connectors on the LLEs and I couldn't even put the kite together. I was very excited to get the correct parts and got out to fly last weekend. After about 5 minutes, the kite started flying funny so I took it down. I discovered that I got an S shaped tear in the sail about 2" long. This was only after about 5 minutes in 8-10 winds.
Thanks for any advice you can give.

Hi Debbie - Did you contact anyone directly at New Tech about this? How was the problem resolved?

Sounds like you must have accidentaly poked the spreader into the sail. The ripstop nylon sail will not tear without a reason. Sticky back repair tape can be used to cover the rip.
Here are a couple sources:

I hope this helps.
Goodwinds,

I emailed NTK and James ended up answering my email and mailing me the correct parts.
I'll try the tape. I try to be so careful with my spreaders, but you never know...
I'm just frustrating because I haven't had problems like this with any other kite I have.
Thanks for the help.

Hello Debbie, first of all I want to say that I am sorry you experienced problems with your Techno.
Flying kites for over 20 years, I can tell you that rips in the sail do happen, it has happened to me and just about any flyer, no matter who was the manufacturer of the kite in question. It is nylon.
If you want, please send me the kite to inspect it. I will repair it for you and send it back. If I determine that it is a manufacturing defect,
WE WILL MAKE IT RIGHT!
Thank you so much for your purchase and if there is anything I can do to help you, please let me know.
Sincerely
Dodd |

Thanks for the offer, Dodd, but I got some of the repair tape and fixed it myself. I haven't been able to fly it since it was fixed, but I'm sure it's good. |
