How much deflection of the leading edge should there be when the sail is tightened on the Desire? Basically, I am trying to figure out if I am overtightening it. The spars are the thinnest I've worked with, so I am always overly paranoid about them.

adTHANKSvance,
Sam

P.S. For some reason the Desire came to me, with one of the bridles about an inch from the "default mark". Needless to say the kite immediately wanted to bank left after every launch. Drove me crazy for a couple of days before I thought to check the obvious /

A little deflection is fine as it enhances a bit of the camber in the wings sail. You may need to use your better judgement here as it is hard to describe how much is too much.

But lack of better judgement is what keeps me flying through sun shows (no lightning)

I figured it would be something like that.

Adjusted the bridle last night... even though I didn't get chance to get out after work, the kite "hangs" better from the bridle now. Will give it a try this weekend with less and more deflection to see what it does to the kite's flight characteristics.

On another note and from earlier "Desire" postings.

1) The size of the spars (diameter) are mark in gold on the spine and I believe more other spars.

2) Out of the "box", the spine terminates in a vinyl endcap at the nose of the kite.

3) Being a dweeb, I couldn't resist putting vinyl endcaps on the wingtips as they were readily available in the right size at the local Lowes. [/list]

Tightening to the first knot in the cord that attaches the sail to the wingtip nock, gives a fair amount deflection and really seems to sharpen the kites responsiveness. Pretty happy with the setup now.
