Well, I'll always have a soft spot for the New Jam, which was one of my very first sport kites: This was the kite that opened up the world of trick flying for me.
But as for my favorite, no question it would be the French Connection: It's great to fly just for fun, it can put up with plenty of abuse, and it is a solid trick kite.
And, if you want to take things to the next level, it's a kite you can take with you into competition. I like the size, the ability of the kite to handle a variety of wind conditions, and it's grace in the air. This last quality is something that doesn't get talked about very much: There are a lot of really superb trick kites out there, and I like to fly them (and watch others putting them through their paces), but one of the reasons I've gone to the French Connection for ballet and Tricks Party competitions is because there's an aesthetic quality to the way this kite looks and moves in the sky that I connect with (and hopefully the judges and audience connect with this quality as well ).
Oh yeah, and I like the graphics . . . especially the ones with purple
Call me obsessed, but I'm seriously thinking about purchasing my third French Connection so I have another backup (and maybe so that one day I can find someone with whom to fly pairs). |

Of my NTK kites, my favorite is the French Connection. I like the build of this kite and the solid feel. This kite has given me the best first time out of bag experience with any kite to date. I just connected with it right away. I like the way it takes my inputs and does what I ask. It is one of the heavier kites (at 12 oz) that I have flown, but I find this gives it a solid stable feel in the air, not a "big heavy kite" feel. Tracking is straight across the window with solid, stable stalls and fades. I am still working on the pitch tricks yet, so no roll-ups to date. Nothing but grins when I fly this one.
Honorable mention goes to my Desire UL. Not a big trick machine, but I like the floaty stuff too. _________________ NT Kites In the Bag:

Me too! The best and my favorite NTK kite is French Connection. Nah... not NTK kites, my favorite kite in my kite bag! Everytime to the kite field, FC is the must go. This kite bringing me deeper and deeper into slack line trick world. I got my first axel, half axel, snap stall, pancake to fade, axel to fade, fade (the best in my kite bag), flic flac, 540, lazy susan, roll up, roll up launch, super start, axel launch, belly launch, spin landing, axel landing, all started from this wonderful FC! I loved that Roll up bar, it really help a lot. I felt like FC taught me how to trick. Especially thanks to Dodd's Flight School DVD that came with the kite. Otherwise, I'll never know what is "slack line trick". Cascade, side slide, jacobs ladder, backspin, wap do wap, slot machine, comete are on the way soon! Last week I almost got comete! Timing, need to practice more with timing...
Depend on the wind condition. When the wind pick up, French Connection is my favorite. When the wind is on vacation, Desire UL is my favorite! The most relax one to fly in the no wind day! I love to do 360° with it, it fly very graceful and slow. Clockwise 360° then half axel and go another 360° counterclockwise, again another half axel to 360° clockwise again... sooo much fun. No running at all (in no wind)! This kite is the must have for every beginner and advance flyers. I have another one on the way, this time I am going to fly two at once. Each hand one kite. I am going to be the Sarawak Troy Gunn!
P/S Hopefully, there will be an UL French Connection. In my country always lack of wind. Dodd! Where are you? I want an UL French Connection! Please! _________________ My kites in webshots.com |

| My current favorite is the Desire since it lets me fly when I have the time to do so, aka after work when the winds are dying. |

| Mine, in case you're interested, is the French Connection, and a few kites I have been working on and off over the last year with. The FRench Kiss is quickly becomming the kite of choice for me, along with another that probably wont be produced for next year because it is a low volume kite (sales), a small indoor/light wind outdoor kite presently called the Micro Light. |

Dodd,
An indoor kite (Micro Light)? Cool I and can't wait!
I know you're busy at your drum shop, but you should pop in here more often. We miss having you around! _________________ Troy Gunn - TKO Sport Kite Team - USA

Hey Dodd,
Great to see you on the forum from time to time.
I think it is great to hear from the kite designer himself.
Great job on the French Connection.
I like this kite more every time I fly it. Just clicked really well with this one! _________________ NT Kites In the Bag:

Second the vote for the Desire. Didn't realized how much I missed it, until I had to wait for replacement spars (but at least now I have multiple replacements made up and waiting). Regardless of what I fly during the course of any visit to a flying field, the Desire always gets some air time... even if it is the last flight of the day as the winds are dying down.
That said, the Cherry Bomb is still special to me, because it was my first sport kite, and with a tail and some moderate winds its just a big Etch-A-Sketch in the sky.
I haven't really connected with my French Connection yet because there were some build issues with it out of the box/bag and I guess I am still holding a bit of a grudge. Right now, it's the kite equivalent of a high maintenance girlfriend... maybe that will change after some more tweaks have been made. However, kite slots 1-4 are fairly set right now until some new entry supplants them.

My favorite kite hands down is my Lotus. I just had it up today for one world one sky and I got to put on my "grass skis". (grass stains) I have loved that kite since the first launch and I will fly that kite untill there is nothing left to fly! I have had excellent luck with the M-80 as well. for all around performance I fly the M-80, light wind or strong wind, beginners and advanced fliers all have had fun with my M-80. I even rigged led lights on it for night flying! That kite has survived teaching people to fly, being caught in a tree, winter flying, too much wind, countless corn fields and still comes back for more. I flew it so much I wore out a bridle! _________________ restless wind |

I have been wanting to reply to this thread since Troy posted it,but I could not make up my mind!
My favorite New Tech kite has been the French Connection, but Dodd hooked me up with a smaller wing version of the FC and It is a prototype called The French Kiss.Dodd and I flew for 5 hours the other Sunday and at the end of the session he broke his kite down and packed it to be shipped to the factory!
I came home from the Hill last Saturday and told my wife that I liked the French Kiss better than the FC. I did not think I would get along this well with a small wing kite but I do!
I have 2 French Connections, and LOVE them but the French Kiss sits on top of them in my bag and has been my go to kite for the past 2 months.
More info later. _________________

I'm jealous because I haven't yet tried the French Kiss. You lucky Dog!
Have you flown it enough to give it a thorough review, on the review section of this forum:?:

Yeah Troy,
I am lucky to have Dodd in my back yard and to be able to fly his protos.
Having "The Man" for a friend helps feed my addiction.
I have approx 40 hours on this proto, I can and will do a review. _________________

Eric/ALL,
On the original FC introduction thread in 2005, there are pics of both the FC & FK. Here's the link:
https://newtechkites.com/NTKBB/viewtopic.php?t=17
I also started a new topic thread with pics and info of the French Kiss (FK). Here's the link:
https://newtechkites.com/NTKBB/viewtopic.php?t=424
The first post by Chris Shultz shows pics of both the FC & FK. The first pics in that post are the FK.
The size difference of the two kites are as follows:
French Connection: 231 cm width
French Kiss: 210 cm width
As you'll see, the sail graphics are different on the FK, compared to the FC. _________________ Troy Gunn - TKO Sport Kite Team - USA
