I know the firestorm was discontinued.
But is there any still around.
I need a kite that will stand strong winds.
I have a New Jam and A French Connection.
but I cannot put these up in a strong wind.
Do you now were I could find one. |

If you want a kite that can put up with a strong wind, you might check out a foil such as one of these:
https://newtechkites.com/ntk_products.php?SubCategoriesID=29
One of the advantages of a foil in strong-wind conditions is that they are much less likely to experience damage since there are no spars to break. And they will give you a good workout .
Usually people are looking for one of two things in strong wind conditions: Either (1) they want a kite that doesn't pull too much and that can do some tricks even when the wind is really going , or (2) they want a kite that will really pull them around without breaking .
My sense with the Firestorm (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) is that it was designed to be a big trick kite for normal wind conditions (not really a strong wind kite, and it seems like you are looking for a strong wind kite).
If you are interested in a Firestorm, you might try posting a notice in the Wanted section of the New Tech bulletin board. The forums at GWTW and Fractured Axel also have wanted sections. |

I don't know if the site has been updated lately or not but try this:
http://www.kitekoop.com/kites/sport/highperfkite1.html
Also the wind rating for the Firestorm is slightly lower than the French Connection, so dont know if this is the route you want to go for a high wind kite or not.
Maybe Dodd is working on a vented FC?

| I haven't heard about a vented New Tech kite in the works . . . though it has crossed my mind to experiment with trying to vent an existing kite myself (actually, I've wondered about taking a New Tech kite like the Techno or the FC and doing both a UL version by lightening the frame and and a vented version so I'd wind up with a complete set for different wind conditions). I need to get some sewing skills under my belt before trying this, however. |

That is a good plan
do not distroy the kite though
I would do it on an inexpensive kite
first to get good at it.

The Firestorm was not designed for strong winds above 20 mph or higher, without risking frame damage, or severe frame distortion.
Yes the kite will trick (slack line), but it is such a wide kite (10.5 ft) that it is better at crusing, and straight line, old school type flying.
Unfortunately, NTK has yet to make a vented sport kite for high wind use, but their foils are great for high wind. _________________ Troy Gunn - TKO Sport Kite Team - USA
