Hey Windjammer,
Welcome to the forum and to sport kite flying.

Before you get to worried about learning any tricks, work on the pull, push, and combo turns. You really need to learn how to control the kite before you do the fancy stuff.

The first 3 tricks I learned were the snap stall, side slide, and the axle.
You should really work on the stall as this is a setup for the axle and a whole list of other things that can be done with a stunt kite. If you can, get Dodd's flight school video. There is lots of good stuff there.

Remember to just have fun and practice, practice.

Jim

Thanks Jim,Ive learned how to control the kite and do figure eight's and loops. If the wind is just right, sometimes I can land it and take off again by stalling it and setting it on the ground.Im also doing some ground work trying to learn how to set the kite back up and get it ready to fly without having to walk to it if I dont land just right.I didnt want to start on tricks that are more advanced than what I should start out with.
I plan to buy one of the flight school DVD's when I get the extra money, and I hope to get a better kite as well. Thanks again for your help.....

I'd definitely suggest the flight school DVD. Also, keep your eye out for kite festivals in your area--stunt kiters are by and large a friendly bunch happy to share information with each other. Check out the calendar at the American Kitefliers Association website in addition to the occasional listings that pop up on this forum.

As far as tricks go, I'd say things like landings and stalls are a good place to start: If you can handle these at the edge of the wind window, then try to work on doing them closer and closer to the center.

As you note, ground recoveries are also good to learn: While not really tricks, they can save you a lot of time walking. One way of figuring out the ground recoveries would be to find a set of shorter lines (say, 30 feet) which will put you close enough to the kite to see what the lines are doing.

And don't get frustrated: tricks usually take a little time and patience to learn, but if you stick with them, you will pick them up. Very Happy
