New Tech Kites at Big Bend

Big Bend is one of the largest and least visited of America's national parks. Over 800,000 acres await your exploration and enjoyment. From an elevation of less than 2,000 feet along the Rio Grande to nearly 8,000 feet in the Chisos Mountains, Big Bend includes massive canyons, vast desert expanses, and the entire Chisos Mountain range. For more info, visit http://www.nps.gov/bibe/

Sherry flies her Dragon Delta within the narrow canyon walls of the Santa Elena. One of the grandest spectacles in the park, the Rio Grande cuts through the Sierra Ponce Mountain here, leaving 1,500-foot towering vertical cliffs of solid limestone.

Sherry, Katy and Debbie enjoy the stiff afternoon winds off Old Maverick Road, near the western edge of the park.

Debbie flies her desert delta with the Pena Mountains visible in the background.

Katy readies her Sojourn Box kite. The Chios Basin is visible off in the distance.

Sherry launches her Star of Texas kite in the "Window", located within the Chios Basin (elevation 4600'). The Window is the pour-off that drains the entire Chisos Basin. It is a narrow slot in the canyon wall at the top of a 100 foot drop-off. Notice the panoramic view from this high vantage point - spectacular!

Debbie and Katy prepare to launch Angels Play.

John flies his 6' Cool Illusion Delta on Easter. He and his wife were driving down Old Maverick Road when Sherry invited them to pull over and fly kites with us. Coincidently, it had been a tradition for John to fly kites on Easter with his grandchildren, who were not in the park at the time. He flew in honor of them.
