On the trailing edge of the French Connection, there is one standoff hole for the standoff that goes farthest out from the spine and then three standoff holes nearer the spine so that you have three positions for the inner standoff.

Two weekends ago, Rob Randolph and I wondered what would happen if you took that outer standoff and put it in the third position on the inner standoff holes and then put the other standoff in the first position. Our initial reaction was positive. My cascades seemed crisper, and I was finally able to backspin the kite--and I did so consistently.

I'd be curious as to other reactions.

Has anyone else tried this? Anyone interested in duplicating the experiment and offering reactions?

Also wondering if Dodd or someone else could offer comments on how standoff positions in general affect flight characteristics of a kite.

So far I only shifted the outer SO-connector to the inner one, which also helped a little bit for the BS. But I'll try your setup. Did you equalize the SOs as the outer one is half an inch longer and it looks a bit strange to me that close together?

I didn't equalize the standoffs--just used both at the standard length and slid the rubber connectors on the lower spreader in so that both standoffs sit perpendicular to the lower spreader. I think I've had the longer standoff in both the first and third positions, but I'm not sure what significant effect that had--that's not to say there isn't a difference, just not enough time and experimentation yet to notice any myself.
