Howdy Dodd!
Perhaps, you could post a list of the tricks that are already on the flight school DVD/Videos, and that would make it easier for everyone else to identify and think of the tricks that need to be added to your new DVD/Video?
BTW - Thanks for all that you do to promote sport kiting, and Have a Happy New Year 2008!

Hey Dodd...
The news of a new video is great ! The best part of the FS video is the flying with Dodd segment, I think. I would like to see more of this type of footage in the next one.
By the way, thank you for posting clips on UToob, great to see sneak peeks of what might be coming next.

A few ideas for the videos. Some of these might be included in the previous video you've done, but I imagine most of them would be new:
Multislot (i.e. multiple iterations of a slot machine in succession)
Taz machine (like a slot machine, but with a rotation in the opposite direction)
Torpille (a tumbling move--I've asked many times for someone to do an instructional segment for this trick, but I haven't had any takers)
Cynique (reversing lazy suzans without pauses)
Multilazy
Kombo (a landing that goes from a rolling susan to a 2 point landing)
Backspin cascade (reversing backspins without interruption).
Insane
Rolling cascade (Revesing insane rotations)
Wap doo wap
I'd also like to see a whole roll-up section (hints on different ways of effectively getting into a roll-up and then the various things you can do with roll up moves: the lewis, the crazy copter, etc). Roll ups are one area where I'm very much a novice and could use a lot of help.
3-D maneuvers: This seems to be rather virgin territory for tricking, and it may be that the FCs are not set up for this, but I've seen videos where the kite is actually pulled to fly towards the flyer . The Stranger Level 7 is a kite that seemed to be set up for this. It would be cool if someone explored this possibility a bit more.
One last thing that might be helpful would be a section on kite tuning and kite repair. This might not be the most exciting stuff, but I imagine there are plenty of kiters out there who have a frayed bridle, a broken spar, etc. and who are not near a kite shop. Plus I'd imagine you have learned plenty of "tricks" having to do with kite repair and tuning that would be of interest, and the video format could be a really helpful instructional tool.
I'm looking forward to seeing you at Treasure Island--just a few more weeks. |

Happy New Year!
Thanks for your input!
Thank you Troy.
I dont know all of the tricks (yet) but one thing you find as you keep flying is that being able to fly tricks others can't doesnt mean that you are "better". Or not being able to fly them all doesnt mean you are not a good flier.
I think the more difficult trick is knowing what others are talking about with all of the strange, duplicate and non descriptive names that are being used now.
I cant possibly include all of the new tricks, but I have improved my original method of teaching that teaches practice lessons and breaks tricks down into similar groups for eaier understanding and learning with the addittion of descriptive names with all of the names I can find pertaining to one paticular trick which is quite a task!
Even in my First DVD that is now about 5 years old, it teaches the fundamentals of advanced trick flying that will help you with all of the new tricks that were listed.
I will not be replacing the original Flight School, the first dual line training DVD for dual line kiting, its information and training is timeless, not to mention that it is still selling very very well thanks to you guys!
So the next one will probably be names Flight School DVD II or something like that.
It has been my life's pleasure to be involved in kiting, to have the friends that I have, and I have so many from kiting and it is indeed an honor for me to be a part of your lives....
Sincerely
Dodd |

I agree 100%

I agree! Just knowing the names of all of the tricks is difficult enough, especially when we consider that many tricks are just variations or spinoffs of other tricks. Knowing all the tricks is almost like a fulltime job, in which, not many have that kind of time to devote to.

Agreed! Even if you make a new Flight School DVD and add a few more newer tricks that aren't on the original DVD, within a short time there will be other variations of existing tricks that will be developed & named. I think that you could include a link to your YouTube videos on the new DVD and people will at least get to see the progression of new tricks as they pop up. Perhaps, a link from your YouTube video page, you could place a link to other's videos sites, such as Randy G's, Etc...

And that is what I think the heart and soal of your flight school is about. For beginner flyers, the more beginner advice that can be offered, the better is is for teaching new flyers. Things such as kite bridle tuning, fixing broken spars, standoffs, wingtip nocks, how to properly cut spars and the tools needed for the repair, etc... is an invaluable resource for newer flyers! On the new DVD, a direct link to the NTK and GWTW forum would be great, so that new kiters can go on-line and ask you questions.

How about "The Best of Flight School" or "Flight School Evolution 2.0" ?

Dodd,
So many people around the world have benefited from your Flight School videos, DVD,and live Flight schools, and without those, many people would have not learned and enjoyed the sport as much.
Thanks for all that you've done to promote sport kiting, with your flight schools and with your kite designs!
