New Tech Kites

I would like to introduce you to a new control technique for the small, highly maneuverable 2-line kites. For several years now, control line combat model airplane flyers have been using kites for practicing their skills. Instead of using the "kite" method of contol, we use a control line model airplane handle. It works VERY well. It requires a 6 inch spacing on the handle or greater. The greater the spacing, the more responsive the control.

I use the method on my Baby "Tana and my Prism Micron. The control response is exceptional and allows the flyer to precicely control what would otherwise be a very difficult kite.

I will be using my handle on some small kites at the Dallas event this Saturday. Anyone who is there is welcome to give it a try.

Thats cool jerry.....while teaching kite surfing, indluding land lessons with foils, we use bars. I used it a few times with dual line kites and I am not sure why I have not adapted that method yet, but is really works well.

Yes, it's very similar to the use of a bar or a handle on a quadline kite except on a much smaller scale. I initially tried to use a quadline handle, but because they are not symmetric, it is better to use a control line model airplane handle ( an EZ-Just) works well or just make a small bar/handle out of a piece of dowel rod with swivels to attach the flying lines to.

We combat flyers are also tying streamers to the kites to simulate what we do with the models. I wonder if there is a practical approach to a new kite event involving combat but not in the traditional Indian/Chineese approach

It might be fun!
