It is never to early to start thinking about the smell of deep fried turkey on the gulf shore.

Don't miss out on the 2005 Galveston, Texas - Dead Bird Buggy Bash, which has become North America's premier fall kite buggy, kite boarding, and kite flying event. This non structured, no rules gathering of all types of kiters has been taking place now for 11 years at East Beach in Galveston, Texas USA, and has grown larger every year!

The official event dates are the week of Thanksgiving which for those of you unfamiliar with this North American tradition, come in the month of November. This year, Thanksgiving is on the 24th of Nov, but some people will arrive as early as the 19th of November and stay through till Nov. 28th. The main group most likely will be built around the Thanksgiving week days of Nov. 24th thru Nov. 27th.

Some attendees of DBBB have also been arriving early the past 2-3 years for the DBBB pre-event, at San Luis Pass (SLP) beach area, which is located at the West end of Galveston Island. This year is no exception, as many DBBB attendees will be gathering there Nov. 19-20. SLP offers a wide variety of terrain to buggy on, including long buggy reaches down the beach, small dunes, sand trails, tide pools, etc... Come early and join in on the fun!

You're so right. Our plans are well & truely on course. Arrive from Down Under the Thursday before. Have the weekend in New Orleans and then the week in Galveston. Looking forward to tasting the turkey and not eating sand After that its off to Denver, Sacremento, Las Vegas, San Diego, Los Angeles and then back to Australia. A mad 3 weeks. Booked into the Sandpiper Motel.

Do you know the best way to get from Bush International to Galveston

Btw do you know what's happened to the web site for the DBBB

Howdy Frosty,
It will be a pleasure to meet you in November. Sounds like you are going on a true kiting adventure! I stayed at the Sandpiper last year and really enjoyed the gulfside room.

The dbbb site that was being used is gone. I hear that a different site at a new address will take its place. No idea when that will be though. Perhaps www.buggytexas.com will become the new resource.

Getting to Galveston from Bush is easy and can be done via interstate freeway. It is about 70 miles. Check out the link:

Cheers!

What did the room have in it as far as being able to prepare breakfasts or lunches? Just trying to get a feel for what we will need to do for meals and therefore money.

That may be okay for those used to driving on the wrong side of the road but I was meaning public or shuttle type transport. Didn't really want to go to the expense of hiring a car.

Cheers!

The gulfside room has a small refrigerator and microwave. We brought a small coleman gas stove and fired it up on the porch to cook eggs and bacon for breakfast every morning.

I know there airport shuttles available for a one way trips. Unsure of the costs. It may be possible to catch a ride to the beach from others on their way. How much stuff will you have? I can try to help. With East Beach (eastern most point of Galveston Island) and San Luis Pass (SLP, on the west side) both being used during the week, you'll need help moving with the croud.

Thanks for the offer Chris. We will have 2 bags each including the one with my kites & buggy & a couple of carry ons. You don't get much allowance on international flights. Bags aren't the largest you can get, 65 cm size, & have to weigh less than 25 kilos each. If you know of anyone able to help with getting from Houston to Galveston would really appreciate it. We arrive at 11.00 on Monday 21st at Bush Intl from a weekend in New Orleans.

Frosty - are you still going to New Orleans?

Contact me offline and we'll see if I can help get you from IAH to the beach.
