Washington State Flight School - June 2001

Just returned from another successful Flight School in Washington state hosted by FS Agent, Erv Cosby of Four Winds Kite Shop. It started at the Ocean Shores event with Cutting Edge Kites. Although we had no pre sign ups, I was assigned a nice Flight School Field on the beach. Jim and Monica were great and even though it rained on Saturday, it was perfect on Sunday. With only four total students for the entire weekend, many had a chance to test the new New Tech Kites. It was a wonderful time.

The four I did have signed up on the spot. I believe I could have helped more, and now with even more cooperation and assistance from Cutting Edge and Ocean Shores Kites, next year will be even better!

Thanks to Andy and Brenda of Ocean Shores Kites, whom I stayed with the entire time. We had a fun fly for the second year in a row on Monday and Tuesday, got some nice video footage, and then headed off to Everett, WA.

Thursday with Four Winds Kite Shop we had six students, perfect conditions, and thanks to Erv and Gail, another wonderful time for the second year in a row. Friday, seven more and a repeat of great weather. Saturday, more great weather with another five, which proves if you believe in what Flight School can do for you, your customers, kite fliers your shop, and you promote it like Erv does, you can get the students, because most of them want it. The official student total from Erv and Gail was 18.5 not sure where.5 came from, but that's the total....

THANKS AGAIN ERV and GAIL, YOU ARE THE BEST!

Wildwood a couple of weeks ago went well with a total of 8 on the spot students, thanks goes out to Rodger Chewning of Sky Festival Productions for the wonderful field and support, and to Jay and his staff at the Kite Loft for their cooperation and support.

Next Weekend is in Indiana, not sure exactly where, this is with local fliers, not a festival or shop. Last report was there is over twelve students with a few more on the way. For more info contact shakes_10@msn.com

Afterward, a couple weeks break, then off to Newport RI with Sue and Steve of High Flyers Flight Co. For more info contact them at buyakite.com

At the end of the month, off to England for Flight School. For more info contact HARRIMJ@uk.ibm.com

Thanks everyone for your attendance in my Flight School Classes.

Till next time
Dodd Gross

> Hey Dodd,
> I want to thank you for taking your time to show an old dog some new tricks!!! I like your style of teaching, and I like your patience with people learning new things.
>
> For anyone thinking about taking one of Dodds Flight Schools, I'd highly recommend that you do. I have been flying for many years, I started competing in 94. I've won a few national championships, an AKM championship and so on and I will say, Dodd had some very good things to teach me. I would have liked to spend more time at it, hopefully next year I'll be able to set more time aside.

> So, whether your just beginning, or an seasoned pilot I think you'd definitely come out of the class with some great ideas, and some new talents.

Thank you Jim, you were a lot of fun to hang out with, and you learned the new stuff very quickly, good job!

Thanks again for including me in the Festival at Ocean Shores. I hope this becomes an annual event.

As a reminder to all KTAI members, my Flight School is offered free to all KTAI Retail members, Monday before the Trade show in Clearwater next January. Not only will this help your own skill level and confidence, but also show you another way in which you can teach your customers. It also gives you an idea on how my flight school classes work, and possibly you will be a part of Flight
School world tour next year.

Because I had my own shop for 4 years, I realize how difficult it is to get out and practice or even find time to fly when you are running a shop, so if you can, come a day early. It would be nice to see all of the kite shops attend this free workshop.

For more information, drop me an email.

Sincerely
Dodd
